Pancho Villa State Park New Mexico

First thing that come to my mind is that we named a State Park in the United States after a Mexican, be it bandit or hero. I would be interested to see if any parks are named after an American that invaded Mexico. I guess I will have to do some research on that one.

Short history of the park... it was an army post when Villa's men 485 strong crossed into the U.S. and attacked the city of Columbus from the southwest.
Looking into Mexico only three miles to the south. Terrain has not changed much since 1916.

The attack was at first a success for Villa, until the troops of the U.S. 13th Cavalry came into action. Once organized the soldiers were able to engage Villa's men and after a two hour fight drove them back to Mexico. This is a very short version of what took place for more information I suggest you visit
