progress Slowly

Today was a look for furniture day. drove into Centro on advice of a friend, was given several locations to look. After driving from one to the other without any luck, we stopped at a Cuban Restaurant for lunch. I love Cuban food so I will not tell you the name or location of this place because in my opinion it was the worst excuse I have ever come across, calling it cuban???? That is like calling Hot dogs French Cuisine. Anyway we then drove around some more and around 2 called it quits for the day, and went to Mega for some lunch meats and drinks.

Of all places to find anything this is not what I would have expected. Found a Television table, and two small sofas, also found desk and chair for my room. Also got our drinks and lunch meats. So what looked like another day spent touring the city the hard way turned out okay. The furniture fits the house we are renting and did not cost an arm and a leg... All in all a very good day..

Next we need Curtains, if anyone reads this blog and knows a place that has a decent choice in curtains.... HELP!!!!!!!!! Please..

Looks like Pia approves of the new furniture...

The Yucatan the next stop??????

Well, we have been looking at sites with information about the Yucatan. At first we talked about Lake Capala, Ajijic, and San Miguel, all have become to expensive for our taste. So we have shifted our attention to the Yucatan.

So far the city of Merida is leading the pack on were we will go, at least in the beginning. Kay ( check photo ) has been busy looking for a place to rent when we get there. She has several leads that are being looked at but nothing solid at the time.

As Kay looks, I study Spanish. Took it back in High School, and have tried several times over the years to learn it. Never seems to sink in for any length of time. This time it is crunch time, if I can not learn it I do not want to live in Mexico for any length of time. So I will study now, and get a tutor when I get to Mexico. Then we will see what happens.

This time all plans getting us to Merda are up to Kay, I do make suggestions and have let her know what I must have. The rest is up to her...
My must haves are
  • (2) two bedrooms, or at least a big room with two beds
  • Fenced in back yard for the dogs
  • Workable Kitchen
  • Close enough to places to walk to when bored
  • Able to take the dogs for walks
  • Able to have the dogs in the house
  • price is not so much I can not save

Good Day in Mexico

Hello to anyone who is reading this. Today was a good day, first we found out about a parade taken place just down the street from the hotel. It was a big parade for the small kids, Kindergarten and first graders only from what I could find out. The Police closed the street, and gave the kids an escort, never happen in the states, and that is a shame!!! It looked like all the parents and the adults from all over the area came out to support them. LOVED it... I have to admit the children down here are so much closer to family then in the U.S.A.

Next great thing that happened was to find a new place to stay for the last two days. Sick of walking an hour to and from anything in the center of town. We are now about 10 minutes from the center and in a much nicer room for very little more.. Factor in bus and taxi and it comes to about the same price.

Then just to end the day on a high note we run into a third parade on our way to dinner. I believe this one was to start off the celebrations for the Saints this weekend going into next week. I really have to learn more about when and why the parades.

Day Two in S.M. Mexico

Today we ate breakfast here at the house we are staying. Well sort of a house, it has four bedrooms on one side of an open court, two bathrooms and the kitchen on the other side. You have to get dressed to go to the bathroom or kitchen. Anyway after breakfast we walked in a different direction and found the Mega market for food, walked around looking at what was offered and decided what we wanted to buy. Must have spent a good two hours just looking, came back to the house and put our stuff away and took a nap before going to lunch.
During lunch we talked about our first impressions of San Miguel, and it seems neither one of us are impressed with what we have seen so far. It does not live up to all the build up we have read about it. Do not get me wrong it is a nice place to visit just do not want to live here.. Lot like Mexico City or New York, nice to visit but not for me to live.

After lunch we did some more walking and decided to take the trolley tour of the city. Found the ticket office with no problem, then had to find a place to wait for an hour, so that meant coffee time.. Picked up a copy of the local paper that comes out on Friday ( mostly in English ), sat down to read and wait.

Once on the trolley we were driven down one hill and up the other. Lots of information, only problem is we did not slow down or stop except twice. For the most part I could not point out the "famous places" because by the time english was used we had passed them already.

After the tour we went to find the thearter to find out what was playing and if we would like to go. Found it but could not find any information on what if anything was going on. Whatever....

From the thearter we went to find Mama Mia's to see what all the fuss was about. It is a nice place and the Pina Colada was very good, pizza was so so.. I think it would be a fun place to go late at night if one did not walk around all day. But we did not stay for the night life, headed back to the house.

Walking back we ran into a parade for what looked like a small circus. Not a clue were it was going or when it would be, but got a few good photos.

Once back I worked on getting all the photos edited and resized, Kay had tea, then went to bed. So ends day to in SM.
