Time spent at LOW Ranch in Deming

Arrived on May 24th with winds getting stronger as the day went on. Will spent until June first to be sure we are off the road during the holiday weekend.
So much dust in the are you can not see the mountains

Spencer's Ride safe from the wind

Trees bending in the wind, sometimes up to 50MPH

Day Two

My visitor looking for free food.

Told a lady that is no longer here used to feed it every day

Today May 27th 2011

Spent the morning cleaning up the sides of one of the roads around the RV Park. Only four of us showed up or we could have done a lot more....

The afternoon was spent in town shopping at Wal Mart, lunch at a Chinese Buffet, filled my LP tanks, and had desert at a dairy Queen.

On the road to Deming for the Holiday

Pulled out of Clayton park early to get to town and do the laundry. Yep.... laundry day again. LOL.

Finished laundry around 10am and hit the road to Deming NM we will stay at the LOW camp from the 24th until the first of June. Do not wish to be on the road during the holiday weekend.

Stopped for a break and had cold tea and pie at the Brown Hotel in Springer NM

Talk about old fashion .....  Room keys and letters in an old  wall organizer.

Storrie Lake is not much to look at.. Glad it is a one night stay only.

First time I have seen a State Park that has units parked so close to each other.

Day two on the road to Deming NM....

Today was a long day, took several tries to find a place to have breakfast, first place could not be found, second place was closed, third had a parking lot way to small, fourth was in a busy street that did not feel safe taken an RV, so parked in a Shell Station and ate in a Mc Donald's.

Second fun part of the day was the place we had paned to stay was closed, so had to go an extra 30 miles to find a State Park we could stay the night. Total drive time today about 7 hours.

So tonight we stay at Elephant Butte Lake S.P.  Should make for an easy drive tomorrow..

Day three to Deming

Early morning departure from Elephant Butte Lake S.P.  trying to beat the winds predicted for the day.
Stopped in Hatch NM to check out the chili, Hatch chili is said to be the best there is.  I purchased some hot sauce and salsa, and that was enough for me.

Arrived in Deming just before the heavy winds hit but not before I had to slow down to 45 MPH to maintain control of the RV. Happy to get off the road for the next week.

Clayton Lake State Park NMWhen we

When we drove away from Coyote Creek, we followed our GPS instructions and came to a dead stop when the road turned into a dirt road. Looked at the map and turned around and went a different way.  Added 20 miles to the trip to Clayton but safer.

Okay who ordered the snow??? Narrow road in one thing but when you ad snow it is no fun.

Stopped for brunch and to get off the road.

Named my RV. Spencer's Ride

Sunrise at Clayton Lake.

Next four photos taken on trail around dinosaur tracks.

Mule deer across the lake, could just see with the eye, had to enlarge photo to ID.

Coyote Creek State Park NM

Went to Coyote Creek State Park on the suggestion of a older couple that said it was one of the best. When we arrived it had two spaces taken  ( out of ten ) but were told by Park Host that we might not be able to stay more then one night because all available sites were by reservation only.  When we pulled out three days later, still only three sites had been filled.. LOL...

Trail head to the only trail the park had.

No Phone service in the park, but if you take a 15 min. hike up the hill you can call.

Temps outside got down to 27 F degrees at night. Brrrrrrr

Kay and Shelby on a walk.

Spencer's Ride from the trail, ( my RV )

View of Creek from the hiking path
Seems the creek offered some good fishing. This one stayed close to the bridge were fishing was not allowed.

Guess...

Villanueva State Park New Mexico

WOW!!!!! What a ride....  Took Exit 230 off I-40 for Villanueva State Park, it is 20 miles of curves and hills. At one point along the way the guide rail was smashed in several places where cars or trucks hit, more then likely going to fast.

After finding the Park next step was finding a camp site. Seems like all the sites with electric and water are crowed together so we decided to boon-dock at a site on the hill top. It is nice and peaceful here and we have trees.

Took a hike and did the loop trail. Next time I hike I really should wear my boots and take some water. The trail was steep, and had lots of loose rocks. But oh baby the views and photos I got.

Back at camp took Spencer for his walk then set up the RV for a three or four day stay, like it here.

Having Spaghetti for dinner tonight, for the first time in weeks we have no wind so hoping to eat outside and enjoy the stars later in the night.

Day two was spent hiking a second trail and this time I wore my boots....  This hike was shorter but I really loved the views from the top. Wish I had taken my camera stand and long range lens, learning as I go...
